29 WEEKS PREGNANT 🤰🏼💙

My bump has grown so much this past week. 😳😍 I have been feeling a bit more tired too like I did in my first trimester. Other than that I am feeling very well, still training 2-3x a week usually full body workouts. I am also doing pregnancy yoga on most days. It’s only 20 minutes but so worth it! Only 11 weeks left to go! 😱😅 It’s gone sooo quick so far! Eeeek!

My goal was to get lean for my wedding in 2012 and I got carried away with the typical very low carb diet and high intensity cardio workouts. I followed this rule that I could only have carbs post-workout and I ate very little in general. 🙈 I didn’t know much about calories and how much I needed. I got very skinny, which I was happy about at the time, but I soon realised that I couldn’t possibly sustain that diet for long term and I also wanted to be curvier, build more muscle and have a more feminine shape.

I was very passionate about nutrition and training and I was constantly reading about it and decided to qualify as a personal trainer.
_
I started eating more, especially carbs 🙌🏼 (even after 6pm and on rest days lol) and I began to lift weights and stopped doing cardio in order to build muscle. My body started to change and I fell in love with lifting. ☺️
_
I have never been more confident in my body and had a better relationship with food. It’s all down to educating myself and MANY YEARS of consistency, so if you are only starting out with your fitness journey, please be patient because changing your body DOES take time. 😉

In 4 weeks I can see a difference and can feel a difference. I'm at least 1kg heavier, this was the goal, eating around 2,000kcal a day and feeling super positive and proud of the changes.

I've been thinking about what I've found difficult so far and I think it's time management. Finding the time in the day to do all I need and then all I want. It takes a bit of organisation and thinking ahead to get it all done and then have time for my workouts. Thats not new for me, but whats been the challenge is realising that the world is not going to end if I just can't fit in a workout or if I have to cancel. Lets face it, small kids are so unpredictable that no amount of planning or organising is going to prevent a meltdown or a trip to the doctors. I've learnt to just say, "OK Gabi, today its just not going to happen, tomorrow will be different". _
So, I want YOU to realise that too. If things don't go according to plan just let it go and try again the next day. .
I've still got another 4 weeks left of my program with @kittisavaifitness and its looking great so far! .

#throwback to how a leg workout used to look like for me pre-pregnancy. 🙌🏼😍👌🏼 It gives me great pleasure to even just watching it lol! I can’t wait to train like this again, although I am very much aware that it will not happen in the near future being 27 weeks pregnant. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ps: for everyone who has been worried about me training too intensely during my pregnancy, you can see now what training intensity I was used to before getting pregnant. Compared to this, my current workouts are warm-up routines... 🤷🏼‍♀️☺️

Anyway, here is the full workout breakdown if you want to give it a go:

A1: BB Hip thrusts 6x 20/15/12/10/8/8 (Increase weight as you lower reps)
B1: BB Box Squats 4x8
C1: BB Sumo deadlifts 4x10
D1: DB Bulgarian split squats 3x12/leg
TRISET:
E1: Weighted back extensions (hamstring focus) 3x15
E2: Lying leg curls 3x10
E3: Banded glute bridge 3x20

The photos on the left were from last summer before I got pregnant. I was in a really good place with my training and nutrition. I had been eating intuitively since my last bikini competition in 2016. Before that, I was religiously tracking macros for 3 years during the time I was competing. I believe this has taught me so much about what’s in food, calories, macros and how much food I actually need.
I was training 4-5x a week in the gym with weights and I did 2-3 long power walks outdoors as cardio. I enjoyed treats in moderation, had wine 1-2x a week and was leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle. 👌🏼 It is possible to maintain a lean and fit body and not be obsessed about your nutrition! Fitness is to enhance your life and not to take over it!!!

I am so glad that I was in such a great mental and physical state when I got pregnant and I have been able to carry on with my healthy eating and regular exercise. At first, I didn’t know what to expect from my pregnancy journey. I didn’t know whether I’d be sick, how tired I would be, how I would be able to carry on with work, how much weight I would gain... but I was, and still prepared for anything as long as my baby is healthy and developing well. ☺️ Thankfully, I have lucked out on morning sickness and been able to eat my normal healthy diet and continue with my training routine. During the first trimester I could pretty much train as usual. I am at the end of the second trimester now and I have definitely reduced the intensity and frequency of my training. The weights I am using now used to be my warm-up weights lol 😄 My goal for the 3rd trimester is to train 2-3x a week and walk on the days in between, plus continue with my daily pregnancy yoga.
